Sports funding allocation

This year we are using the money in the following ways:

• To purchase a further year of the Greenacre Sports Partnership. This is helping us to provide new sports and competitive experiences for pupils. We can also access the resources, equipment and coaching from Greenacre School. In addition, staff are receiving Continuing Professional Development in order to ensure the sustainable development of PE and sports within the school.

• To pay for swimming lessons for all KS2 children. Each child will receive 10 x 30 minute lessons in the pool from a qualified Instructor. At the end of this period each child will be assessed to see just how they have progressed.

• To pay for the visit by Ben Quilter, the Paralympic Bronze Medalist and World Judo Champion, who gave an inspirational talk to the whole school at the beginning of the year, based on his own experience of losing most of his vision at a young age and how his own determination helped him to overcome this disability and took him to the top of his sporting profession.

• To pay for sports equipment.

Other news...

Mini Youth Games (MYG)
Ten children took part in the Tag Rugby MYG in October. This was the first time St Benedict’s has been involved in such a competition and the children all did very well. We are determined to improve upon our position in the Tables year on year. Other MYG events we shall be taking part in are: Swimming, Netball, Kwik Cricket, Football and Athletics.

Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle
During the Spring and Summer Terms we shall re-introduce the Change 4 Life club and Sports Crew Training (where Upper KS2 children are trained to organise lunchtime activities for younger children). In the meantime, if any of your children are involved in a sports club (other than football), please let Mr Gosling know so that such activities can be further promoted through our newsletters, displays and web pages. If you have a photo of your child involved in such activities please send it into the school for display (writing your child’s name and class on the back of the photo).
