St. Simon Stock Class (Year 3)
We have had a great start to Year 3 in term 1. We have completed many interesting topics throughout English and Art. We have recently made cave painting pictures in the style of cave paintings found in France. We have also had a fabulous time learning about `Hedgehog' written by the author D. King-Smith and we still regularly read a class book written by him.
This term we will be learning about the features of play scripts and hopefully producing some of our own plays. In Maths we will be concentrating on multiplication and division facts and applying these facts to solve word problems. Our topic this term will be based on Geography and we will be learning about the UK as a country including cities, rivers and the importance of London through the ages. Mary, our Mother will be our RE topic; we have asked the children to bring in a picture of their mother so that we can display these on our RE board.
It is encouraged that the children bring in any completed home learning task based on the weeks learning, this will be displayed on the `I wondered so I ...' board.
Homework will be given out every Friday to be returned every Monday. Spellings are given out on a Thursday and children are tested the following Tuesday.
A great iPhone/iPad app you can personalise by typing in their weekly spellings to make practising fun is:
Squeebles Spelling Test
Times tables are tested on Wednesday. Children should practise their times tables facts regularly at home in order to progress. At the end of Year 3 children must know all their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 times tables.
A useful website for practise is: www.multiplication.com
There are also excellent iPad apps available such as:
Squeebles Times Tables
10 minute a day times tables.
Please listen to your child read every night and thank you for your continued support with their spellings and times tables.
