St. Simon Stock Class (Year 3)
We have had a great start to the New Year. We are going to be completing interesting topics through English and History. We have already started to look and find out about the Romans and the children have been excited to show the Roman road cross sections that we completed in the field. During this term we will also be looking at Roman shields and mosaics, and of course we will be going to a real Roman Villa on our educational visit to Lullingstone.
This term we will also be learning about the features of newspapers and will be producing a newspaper article based on road safety. In Maths we will be concentrating on time using analogue and digital clocks to tell the time to the nearest minute. We will also be using our knowledge of Roman numerals to tell the time on a Roman numeral clock.
Called to Change will be our RE topic, which links in nicely to our First Holy Communicants.
It is encouraged that the children bring in any completed home learning task based on the weeks learning, this will be displayed on the `I wondered so I ...' board.
Homework will be given out every Friday to be returned every Monday. Spellings are given out on a Thursday and children are tested the following Tuesday.
A great iPhone/iPad app you can personalise by typing in their weekly spellings to make practising fun is:
Squeebles Spelling Test
Times tables are tested on Wednesday. Children should practise their times tables facts regularly at home in order to progress. At the end of Year 3 children must know all their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 times tables.
A useful website for practise is: www.multiplication.com
There are also excellent iPad apps available such as:
Squeebles Times Tables
10 minute a day times tables.
Please listen to your child read every night and thank you for your continued support with their spellings and times tables.
