Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful half-term break and I am really excited to welcome you all back!

This term, we will be continuing to explore our topic of the ‘Anglo-Saxons’ and it was lovely to hear that some of you visited Hastings and Battle over the half-term break, where the battle for throne of England took place in 1066. The children have demonstrated a real interest in this time period and really enjoyed reading ‘Anglo-Saxon Boy’ by Tony Bradman.

Since we have been looking into the long ships used at this time, we will be looking further into waterproofing designs. They will be designing and preparing a model of a flood-proof house in our Design and Technology project ‘Beat the Flood’ and the children will have the opportunity this term to test their models to see if they really were able to beat the flood!

In our English sessions, we finished the term half way through our book ‘Floodland’ by Marcus Sedgwick. We will be following Zoe this term as we find out how she will survive on Eel Island. We will be writing narrative stories, focusing on tone and use of language to create atmospheres and the children will have the opportunity to share their work with others in the class.

In Maths, we will be focussing on Multiplication and Division. I know lots of the children are keen to continue practising these methods at home so I have attached a link that outlines the methods that we will be using for both multiplication and division.

 For Your Information:

  • P.E. will continue to be on Monday afternoons. It is getting chillier, so the children may wear a navy tracksuit and trainers for our P.E. sessions.
  • Homework will still be posted onto Class Dojos on a Friday, with the homework to be completed by the following Friday.
  • Spelling and Times table tests will continue to be on Thursdays.
  • ‘The Four Elements’ Learning Log is due Friday 4th December 2020.

Thank you for your continued support and if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the office,
