Welcome to St Bernadette’s Class! 🌟

A big St Bernadette’s Welcome to our Year 2 children and their families!

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and have enjoyed making lots of happy memories together. I feel so blessed to be teaching the children again this year and to have the opportunity to watch them continue to grow, learn and flourish. It is such a privilege to see how much they have already developed, both academically and personally, and I am excited to see what they will achieve this year.

Year 2 is such an exciting year! It is a time for the children to consolidate and further develop the skills they have learnt so far in Key Stage 1, while challenging themselves even further. As the eldest children in Key Stage 1, they have an important role to play in our school community, and we will encourage them to become increasingly independent, resilient and confident learners.

We have been so impressed with how well the children have settled into Year 2 and how confidently they have taken the transition in their stride. They have already shown themselves to be such enthusiastic learners, ready to get stuck in, have a go and give everything a try! Their positive attitudes and excitement for learning have been wonderful to see.

We are looking forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, friendship, faith and lots of exciting adventures. Together, we will encourage the children to be the very best versions of themselves, following the example of St Bernadette by being kind, compassionate, courageous and faithful.

Our Learning This Term

During Term 1, our Power of Reading text is The Man on the Moon, where we will follow the adventures of an astronaut called Bob. This links perfectly with our History topic, Exciting Explorers, as we discover the remarkable achievements of famous explorers Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus. In Design & Technology, the children will become young engineers by designing and making their own space buggies!

In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction, and shape.

In RE, we will be exploring the Holy Bible through the stories of Creation and Noah, and thinking about how we can care for God’s wonderful world.

In Science, we will build on our Year 1 learning as we investigate Living Things and Their Habitats, exploring how different plants and animals live and thrive in their environments.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are so excited for the year ahead and can't wait to see our wonderful Year 2 children grow, learn and flourish together.

Key Dates

PE will be on a Monday. This Terms PE will focus on Football and . The children will wear their PE kits homes.
Forest School will take place on a Thursday
Books will be changed on a Thursday
Spellings will be tested on a Thursday AM
Homework will be set on Classroom Dojo on a Friday PM
Monday 21^st September.2026- Meet the Teacher meeting 3.30pm

Homework Expectations

Reading- Please ensure you child reads to an adult at least 3 times a week and record this is your child’s Reading Journal.
Mathletics- Two activities will be set each week. These will be focused on the what we have been learning in class.
Spellings- Children will be given weekly spellings to learn. They will be tested on these on a Thursday morning.
Optional Homework activities- Occasionally there will be an optional activity that you child will be invited to complete. these will be explained on the homework document which is shared via Classroom Dojo.
