Collective Worship

Collective Worship is an important part of who we are at St. Benedict’s.  We pray and
worship in a variety of ways at different times and different places.  We have whole
school Masses, Masses with the Parish, whole school and class liturgies led by
both teachers and children. During Lockdown, we became innovative and conducted our
various acts of worship via Teams so everyone could be included, even those at home.
We take our lead from the Church's liturgical year, helping our children to know and
understand the teachings of the church and to reflect this in their daily life.

Harvest Festival Mass

Led by children in all year groups, this was a celebratory Mass in the school hall
attended by a large group of parents and parishioners. Our community came together to
give thanks for the harvest and all the wonderful things we are lucky enough to receive.
All our Harvest donations were for our local charity, the Medway Foodbank.

October, month of the Holy Rosary

During the month of October, we prayed the Rosary together every morning during our
family morning prayer time.  We also came together as whole school to take part in ‘One
Million Children Pray the Rosary.’

Advent Wreath Service
In preparation for our Advent Wreath Service, each class made their own Advent Wreath.

St. Simon Stock Parish Epiphany Carol Service
Over the Advent season, St. Benedict’s Chaplaincy Team collected gifts for the Catholic Children’s Society to support local disadvantaged children and families. At St. Simon Stock Epiphany Carol Service on Sunday 8th January, St. Benedict’s and St. Thomas More children took part in a dramatised procession of the Wise Men and read a reflective poem. A representative from our Chaplaincy Team presented the gifts donated by our school to Dr. Rosemary Keenan from the Catholic Children’s Society. Thank you once again for your generosity and supporting local families in need.

The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple- Candlemas
We celebrated the feast where Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple forty days after His birth. Children re-told the events from Luke’s Gospel through readings, mime and song. We thanked God for the light that shines in each of us and reflected on how each of us can be like a candle in the world.
