ST. FRANCIS’ CLASS (YEAR 6)

Welcome

Our class mission in Year 6 is to believe in ourselves and others.

We will never give up and keep trying, especially when things are difficult.

We will keep our consciences clear by making the right choices.

We will demonstrate compassion by being sympathetic and kind towards others.

We will reject lies, let go of insults and have faith in Jesus, others and ourselves.

Welcome back after the May half-term break!

Yay! SATs are finally over! This is invariably the children’s last few weeks at St. Benedict’s. Therefore, the term has some exciting educational visits to enjoy. Six of our best Go-Kart drivers will represent St. Benedict’s at the Young Eco Engineers event on Sunday 29th June. We are also incredibly excited for our residential at PGL in Marchants Hill, Surrey from 25th- 27th of June for lots of fun team-building games and activities!

In English, our fictional focus is suspense writing, characterisation through dialogue and alternative resolutions. Our non-fiction writing will focus on a non-chronological report and a newspaper article.

In Maths, we will be completing projects which provide an opportunity to revisit many of the skills and curriculum content covered both in Year 6 and also the rest of Key Stage 2. This gives us the opportunity to ensure any possible gaps in understanding are addressed before the children move on to secondary school.

The focus in RE will be considering how we are called to serve Jesus. We will be reflecting on the importance of the Sacraments and how they demonstrate ways to serve God and others – using the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

In Science, we will complete our focus on animals and humans. We will learn about the importance of the circulatory system and how it transports oxygen around our body. This will include learning about: the heart and how it is an important muscle in our bodies; our heart rates and different activities that can increase the heart rate; being healthy and things we can do to lead a healthy lifestyle; things that people do that can cause them to be unhealthy.

PE this term covers athletics and Sports Day preparation. It will take place outside on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that your children have relevant P.E. kit at school on those days.

I would also like to remind you that there will be numerous events being held this final term for our Year 6 Leavers. Please check the weekly newsletters for updates on days and times for various events.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office.
