ST. FRANCIS’ CLASS (YEAR 6)

Welcome

Our class mission in Year 6 is to believe in ourselves and others.

We will never give up and keep trying, especially when things are difficult.

We will keep our consciences clear by making the right choices.

We will demonstrate compassion by being sympathetic and kind towards others.

We will reject lies, let go of insults and have faith in Jesus, others and ourselves.

Welcome back after the Easter break – myself and Mrs Law hope that you had a relaxing couple of weeks ‘away’, whatever you did and wherever you went.  This is term 5 for Year 6 – it’s hard to believe that Year 6 will be leaving the school at the end of July!  This half term will last for 6 weeks and will finish on Friday 24th May, returning for term 6 on Monday 3rd June.

The 2024 National Curriculum Assessments (also known as SATs) will take place this academic year in the week beginning Monday 13th May.

We will have fully built, tested and customised our St. Benedict’s Go-Kart in time for race day which is Sunday the 30th of June. More details to follow.

In English, we will create newspaper reports, explore some thematic poetry, write with moral dilemmas and write a biography.  We may also write some persuasive letters in real-life contexts.  In Maths, we will study various aspects of geometry and revise all that we have covered.

Classification of living things and microorganisms will be our Science focus.  We will investigate the growth of mould, create a single-celled organism and explain where it fits into the systems of classification.

We will complete our South America topic and begin our European Trade Links unit.   Regional influences and geopolitical factors will be explored.

PE this term is football and Rounders, and will take place outside on Monday and some Thursday afternoons.  Please ensure that your children arrive at school on these mornings with their full PE kit.

Many thanks

Mr Hunter and Mrs Law
